Not just how I feel about Fanfic based on my work... but how a host of different authors feel, alphabetically.. (cont.) (Neil Gaiman)
Now, somehow, I have ended up with 5 tabs open about the differing definitions of slash fiction, the extensive history of slashfic, and a tab called “why slash?” wherein there is a link titled “My thoughts on yaoi” that I am currently contemplating clicking.
I don’t even like slash.

Sometimes I’m glad there’s no such thing a special snowflake.
I feel dumb enough as it is most of the time. The last thing I need is to be the only person in the world with my main personality traits and quirks.
Seriously, that’d be the worst. I don’t even know why anybody would want to be isolated like that. It’s so nice knowing that there are literally tens of thousands of people just like me. A girl’s gotta relate!
Thanks, probability and math. You rock.
Does anybody read in French around here?
Hey, I really want to brush up on my french since I haven’t done much reading or speaking since high school except for a semester in Uni last year. I was so close to being fluent and then I stopped having to speak it every day and now I am SUPER rusty. I refuse to lose it.
SO. Does anybody have any good french book suggestions I can throw on my kindle for my many, long, upcoming travel days? Preferably novels that aren’t too advanced, because like I said I’m super rusty and I don’t want to have to pull out a dictionary.
(Just to clarify, I was in French immersion all through K-12, so I’m probably upper-intermediate level)
Yes yes please?

Man. The last few weeks have been both electrifying and lazy, but deliberate I guess. Lots of exercise at the very least.
I’m getting on a plane in two weeks, a Tuesday, and I am flying to Sydney, Australia. I won’t be home again for a year. I will be on my own completely and entirely, for the very first time. Naturally, I’m not really thinking about it, past “what do I need to pack,” and “I really hope I can get tickets to the world premiere of The Hobbit in New Zealand for November.”
I’m really just trying not to think of the rest of it.

It always churns my stomach to see someone’s creation taken away from them. It’s one of my biggest fears as an artist and aspiring creator of things, to pour my heart and soul into something I’ve brought into being, and then ultimately be excluded from it.
Cruel. Cruel cruel cruel.
That kind of sums up why I feel so, so down about this whole thing. I mean it really sucks going through months of waiting for the will-they-won’t-they cancellation event, but it’s infinitely worse knowing that it’s back without Harmon.
Community is his baby, his brainchild. The entire thing was him. The writers and cast, although amazing and I’m not trying to diminish their giant part in the creation of something great, would never have been able to do what they did without Dan. Every little piece of Community that we love, every weird little joke, callback, homage… every intricately woven detail was a result of Dan fighting tooth and nail for it.
I mean, okay. He was hard to work with. He was a diva. He created problems that shouldn’t have been an issue. But he also cared a lot about his work and poured his heart and soul into it. The majority of the cast and writers respected the hell out of him. He had so many awesome ideas that now, unfortunately, will not go down. Did you know he had a Scooby Doo homage lined up for Halloween 2013? Did you know Neil Gaiman wanted to write an Inspector Spacetime episode starring Karen Gillan?
I’ll give season 4 a shot. I will. Because in the end it’s a television show and the cast is still great. But as an artist (and a person, I guess) I’m going to have a hard time not feeling kind of hollow about the whole thing and the way it was handled. Dan should have at least been told he was being replaced, over the phone at the very least.
I’m excited to see what other projects he comes up with now, though.
Here’s to three fabulous seasons, Dan. I’m amazed you pulled it off this long.

Haha, Settlers of Catan would be such a boring movie. “I have a brick! Does anybody have any sheep?” and one guy at the end of a long road.
I got an email this morning…
I’m going to Australia!!

“I’m sorry ma’am, you can’t do that in a movie theatre”
Holy shit, applying for an Aussie visa is CONSIDERABLY simpler than the UK visa. The more I think about it, the more excited I am. Not to mention I have friends there and in NZ that I haven’t seen for years.
Wish me luck!
